19. Bowl, with Christmas Trees
I have made a Christmas bowl – and not just a Christmas bowl, but an OFF-CENTER Christmas bowl. And not just an off-center Christmas bowl, but one with Christmas trees! What more could you ask of a holiday woodturning? (yeah, well, you could ask for it to dispense $20 bills, but I couldn’t figure out how to do that, at least not without running afoul of the Treasury department). (PS: you could also call the Christmas trees just “fir trees” and turn this into an all-year-round bowl.) – Rick Morris |

The snowman was cast from Alumilite with white pearl. Then the snowman was placed in a mold (2″ PVC) and clear Liquid Diamonds was poured over it to encase it. After demolding, red and green Spectraply was glued on both ends with 5 minute epoxy. After turning, I sanded to 600 grit, then used Yorkshire Grit. I micro meshed the resin part to 12,000 grit. I used Hampshire Sheen Gloss on the Spectraply parts. This was my first ornament and it was a lot of fun making it. Thanks to Alan and Carl for putting this challenge on. 33. Colored Pencil Ornament with Dyed Maple Finial
This was part of an experiment, to see how far I could take hollow form ornaments this season. The other objective was to practice turning finials and hollowing. I tried everything from glitter inlays to segmenting and color, In this case, I took all the leftover pencil pieces from other projects and cast them in resin to form my turning blank, I then set about shaping and hollowing the globe. I figured that I would have to do something interesting with the finial so I dyed a curly maple finial blue. Enjoy! – Darryl Jones |
