Mousing Around With Woodturning – How To Capture A Mouse
This post is best viewed above here. In case of difficulty, it is also posted on YouTube and FaceBook.
I want to turn a couple of mice refrigerator magnets for small gifts. A mouse is not a mouse without a long tail. In the past I would turn a mouse and then figure out how to drill a hole in its backside for a tail.
With some advance planning, holding a mouse becomes almost trivial. But holding a mouse on a wood lathe is not the whole story. There are a couple more operations off the lathe where holding a small round mouse is important for the safety of both the mouse and me – the operator.
Let’s see what they are.
BTW my sanding pad is also mounted to my lathe using a #2 Morse taper collet to hold the 1/4″ shank of my sanding pad. Then a piece of 3/8″ all thread serves as a drawbar to keep the collet and pad secure in the lathe spindle.
Enjoy!
For sanding the refrigerator magnet mouse after parting it off the lathe you might find that mounting your 1/4ā³ shank sanding pad in the drill press is quicker and easier than mounting it on the lathe. A plus is that the drill press table gives support to your hands while sanding the project. Works for many other projects also.
Thanks for the comment. I have used the drill press in the past. But I also like the collet.

hello, My name is bill Foster I love your show! No matter how long you’ve been turning you can always find a new project to learn. I have a Powermatic 20″ wood lathe ,model 3520 A (love it)
I’m having a problem and asking for help, Please! Anything or anyone you can suggest would be greatly appreciated.
While working on a turning some time I get a catch. the hole lathe shuts down. I push the reset button and it goes back on. But, it’s getting worse.
I called Powermatic to get it fix. They recommend buying a new power inverter box (990.00). The problem with the new Inverter box is the price and delivery time. I bit the bullet and ordered one,($ ouch) back in June. Now they keep pushing back the delivery! ( made in china) now it’s the end of September… maybe.
Do you know 0f a parts place in USA, might have one in stock? Or anybody that would services or repairs them?
I live in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, 86406. My cell # 310-488-0149 E mail: bfjeep42@aol.com
Thank you in advance for anything you can suggest.
Sorry. I checked my friend at M&M tool in SLC. they would have you call Powermatic. So again sorry.
